I always walked past Riverstone and the first time I laid eyes on it I fell in love with the stonework and the river setting, I imagined what a great family home it would be.”Can you recall the moment you knew it was “the one”?“In 2016 the owner asked me in the local pub, the Fairy Glen, if I would be interested in buying Riverstone and invited me to look at the property. Me and my wife, Michelle, went for a look and instantly fell in love with the place, Michelle’s exact words were ‘what a beautiful home to raise a family’ and that’s exactly what we did.”Following those first impressions, how has your connection deepened over time, things like the architecture, the setting, the atmosphere and experiences all play a part?“Riverstone is a truly magical family home for me, my wife and our 5 children. It’s so well built, and solid, not like the new builds you find today. It’s also such a quiet setting with nothing but the sound of the river and birds. My 3 young boys are always out playing by the river or climbing trees in the fields. We love the peace and quiet as well as how safe the property feels. We grow all our own vegetables and harvest apples from the orchard as well as tomatoes from the green house.”How would you describe the feeling of arriving home, whether at the end of a busy day, after a weekend trip or simply just a few hours away?“I work away for 4 weeks at a time in Africa so when I return I always ensure the driver takes the Conwy exit and over Sychnant Pass into the village to see the beautiful country views, as we enter the driveway the view of the open mountain and river makes me happy. I’m always greeted by my 3 young boys playing on the grass waiting for me. When I enter the house, Michelle always makes sure the log fires are lit, if it’s cold outside, and instantly it feels like home.”Tell us a little about the home’s history. Have you made any changes or additions that you feel have enhanced its character or functionality?“Riverstone was built in 1818 and was part of the Glyn Estate. I believe there used to be an old mill in the top field. We have made quite a few changes to the property, we have removed the old PVC conservatory that used to be at the front and added the boot room to the right of the property, changed all the windows from PVC to oak sash windows, all the oak doors and window we installed have come from oak trees on our 6 acres. All the dry-stone walls that had fallen over have all been put back up and in the Summer months they are full of newts and common lizards. All the stone fireplaces, coving and plenty more were put back to original.”Is there a particular feature or detail that holds special meaning for you? “When we first moved into Riverstone we lived in the Annexe whilst renovating the main part of the house. In the kitchen, the past owner had a log burning stove and this will always hold a special place in my heart. I always dreamed of a log fire and we remember finding out we were pregnant with our first baby boy, we lit the fire, had dinner and discussed all our future plans that night for hours, this is still one of my most special evenings sat by that fire.”Which spaces do you find yourself gravitating to most, and why?“We love the kitchen and I like to cook when home. Feeling the warm radiant heat from the AGA after a few glasses of wine with all the family sitting around the oak top island is pretty special. We love to relax in the living room with the log fire crackling, children playing with their toys and watching programs together.”How does your home make day to day living feel special? Whether it’s morning light in the kitchen, cosy evenings by the fire, or garden views that never get old?“There is always something to see, a fox early morning, red kite in the sky, the Heron in the river catching a brown trout or just the glow of the fire in the living room.”What time of year does the property feel most magical, and why?“My wife Michelle loves the summer months because she loves to pack the picnic basket and we go sit by the river at our special spot, make a small campfire and the boys swim in the river while we relax with a glass of wine, that’s magical to be able to have that freedom. My most magical time of the year is definitely Autum, when all the leaves turn and the scenery looks magical. Time to light the fires which make the house nice and cosy.”For families, what do you feel makes this such a wonderful place to raise children?“The freedom and how safe the area is, we have 3 boys, Connor 8, Cai 7 and little Cobi who is 3 and a half. Twin girls who are 23, and have left home, and are now at university. The boys are never inside and are always catching frogs, playing in the river or climbing trees. The boys have learnt valuable skills from caring for and raising chickens, sheep and how to grow vegetables. Every morning before school they will run to the orchard and pick fresh pink lady apples from the tree in the growing season.”How would you describe the local community and the lifestyle on offer?“Capelulo has a lovely village setting with a local pub just few minutes’ walk from Riverstone, everyone is so friendly and there’s plenty to do. The beach is only 15min walk and mountain trails all around. 5min drive into Conwy. Capelulo school is where our children go and it is fantastic. In the summer months Michelle walks and the boys ride the bikes which is only 10 minute’s.”Are there favourite local spots, cafés, pubs, restaurants, walks, hidden gems etc that really capture the spirit of living here?“To be honest the whole area is a hidden gem, it’s just off the beaten track but only 5 misn to the A55. There are endless activities to do whether it be a drink at the pub, playing golf, the beach, hiking and mountain biking.”Can you share a remarkable or meaningful moment that truly sums up your time in this home? “The birth of my 3 boys and watching them grow, play and explore nature.”What kinds of memories have been created here?
