A complex of farmhouses surrounded by vineyards in Cotignac, one of the most beautiful villages in France. The building complex comprises four houses, laid out around various courtyards and summer terraces which both connect and separate the different units. Probably dating from the 17th century, all the buildings are of stone. Each house or cottage has its own stone staircase. Two entrances on two different levels provide access: to the ground floor on the north side and to the first floor on the south side via an external flight of stairs that leads to a small terrace overlooking the garden. The walls are covered with Virginia creeper; the openings are mostly straight, sometimes arched, with small-paned wooden doors or windows, and the roofs are single-pitched with monk-and-nun tiles. The garden extends below down to the swimming pool. The panoramic view stretches to the vineyards and the hills in the distance.

Farmhouse Aups (83)
A stone 'mazet' of approx 65 m² with swimming pool and an outhouse fit for habitation, set on a hillside planted with olive trees, on the outskirts of Aups. From the edge of the village, an untamed, winding path provides access up the hill to a number of houses. The entrance to the property is just a few hundred metres further on. The house is set in around 7,000 m² of land, surrounded by olive trees and holm oaks. Bushes of rosemary, thyme and wild mint are everywhere. There are a swimming pool and a garden shed below. The mazet (small cottage), like the outhouse, has a gable roof of monk-and-nun tiles; its walls are of dry stone, with mostly rectangular windows, and each of its facades is slightly asymmetrical. The restoration and modernisation of the building, carried out in the 1980s by an architect, perfectly blend the new materials with the sun-drenched stonework; they add structure to the house while lending it a formal originality that contrasts with the traditional character of the original rural building.
