Near Loches, in a historic town of Touraine, an old abbatial residence listed as a historical monument (MH), along with its enclosed garden and canal. At the center of the town, the MH-listed house probably dates back to the 14th century. It served as the residence of a Benedictine abbey, the buildings of which from the 18th century still face it. Raised over two levels, the structure features a tall and wide gable with roundels, adorned with a "trumpet of Montpellier," and its stone corbel. The slate roof is characteristic of constructions from the 15th and 16th centuries. The main facade, perpendicular to the street, opens onto the garden, accessible through a gate. The openings vary in size, and two square turrets flank the building, one of which is topped with a slate roof with four slopes. On the street side, an old wing is constructed of dressed stone masonry, under a single-slope roof with flat tiles. The north facade and the gable facing the canal, also with roundels, have clearly been modified in the 17th century, with the creation of three large openings per level, in an effort to harmonize with a "new" wing from the same period, which is now a separate property. A small canal runs along the property.
