HouseNigran (Spain)

The Pazo de Cadaval-Urzáiz, located in Nigrán, in the province of Pontevedra, represents almost seven centuries of history, since this building already existed in the 14th century. In various parts of the house there are coats of arms and blazons of the Cadaval, Figueroa, Ozores, Montenegro, Ceta, Correa and Urzáiz families.
The building is made up of an elongated bay (the oldest part of the Pazo) which is joined on the right side to the main body, with a three section floor plan, one central and two forward, with the main staircase between them, built in 1688, as well as the balcony which, splitting off in front of the entrance door, runs along the entire front of the Pazo. This main façade is also joined on the right side by a stone tower topped by battlements, dating from the early 19th century, although it has been reconstructed based on the old drawings showing the house with the tower.
The main building of the Pazo has 8 main bedrooms, more than 6 lounges and dining rooms decorated in the style of the period, as well as a splendid kitchen with a lareira.
The total number of bedrooms is 14 with as many complete bathrooms, as well as countless storerooms, garages and other rooms typical of such a noble property.
The complex also includes: a circular tower topped by battlements that possibly served as a watchtower. A cruceiro. A wall surrounding the enclosure, in which there are two gates, one of which gives access to the courtyard of honour in front of the main façade with a coat of arms of the Urzáiz family on the lintel. A chapel, possibly dating from before 1655, which does not occupy its original site. A hórreo, probably one of the largest in Galicia. And finally a swimming pool.
The garden complex is made up of four enclosures among which the southern garden stands out, both for its greater extension and its age (mid-19th century), as well as for the originality of its layout.
It should be noted that the whole complex is in a perfect state of conservation with the daily presence of gardening and maintenance staff and is very well communicated, just 12 kilometres from the city of Vigo and 15 kilometres from the airport.
