Its main beach, Praia da Luz, has a wonderful sandy shore, calm waters, and the incredible cliff of Rocha Negra, formed over 150 million years ago as a result of lava that emanated from the once active volcanoes of Monchique. Luz is an historic village, and just up from the water you'll find ancient roman ruins, including fishing tanks, and a bath complex. The town has a number of bars, restaurants, cafés and shops dotted along the shoreline, and amongst its winding village streets.
