House with pool and terrace Mont Saint Clair-Hôtel de Ville - Sète (34)
Sète — PBI WHITE STONE® Collection Mont Saint-Clair. People climb it for the silence, and to take in the sea and the Thau lagoon in a single glance. Sète remains that welcoming place where the extraordinary sometimes emerges. It is here, on these heights, that PIERRES-BLANCHES® presents ‘La Pulsation de l’Onde’. THE ANCHORAGE At this very moment, one of those times when one’s gaze drifts towards the distance, one finds oneself watching for the ripple of a wave, the return of a boat to the harbour, the little that remains of the day. The mother-of-pearl sky blends with a sea so crystal-clear that the light seems to rise from the waters. THE SCALE OF THE LANDSCAPE The grounds cover 1,200 m². The sun casts its glow upon them, whilst the bougainvilleas retain their full fuchsia colour. Further on, the practice green unfurls its chartreuse hue amongst the native trees. THE GEOMETRY OF VOLUMES In 2016, the current owners, an aesthetically minded couple, restored this 1970s house to its former glory. Whilst preserving its character, the renovation has given it a contemporary style. White render, smooth concrete ceilings, and fine, dark joinery. Clean, interlocking volumes of varying heights. White pillars raise the upper storey, creating a deep loggia beneath. A limestone plinth anchors the whole structure. THE ART OF HOSPITALITY From the very threshold, 270 m² opens out towards the horizon. The sliding pocket windows allow the panes to disappear into the walls, and the boundary between inside and outside ceases to exist. The living room occupies 90 m² on the second floor. It extends onto a terrace overlooking the sea. Adjoining the living area, the dining room leads to a German-style kitchen, whose design strikes a balance between boldness and simplicity. Continuing on from there is the west-facing terrace. Its mineral tones complement the green of the five-metre-long cooling pool, bathed in the evening light. In this living space, light serves as the raw material. It streams through the unobtrusive windows, blurs the threshold and frames the landscape like a jewel. The garden, set at the heart of the room, displays the full spectrum of its colours. THE BARK OF DREAMS The second-floor sleeping area is organised around a master suite, a generously proportioned bathroom and a walk-in wardrobe. The whole space opens out onto the Mediterranean Sea. The lower floor features two bedrooms with en-suite shower rooms, a 13 m² study and a separate bedroom, also fitted with a shower room. This bedroom opens onto a 27 m² terrace, where one can settle down as soon as the first rays of sunshine appear to read or gaze out at the horizon. THE SITE’S AXES The outdoor spaces organise the transition between the property and the grounds in successive levels that define the different areas of use. Beyond this, Mediterranean vegetation lines the view and weaves an organic link with the building, filtering the daylight. The 5-metre-long cooling pond serves as a key element in the spatial layout. Its line stretches off into the distance. The still water mirrors the architecture and invites the sky into the space. COMFORT FEATURES Sète — Heat pump, integrated home automation. It takes just five minutes to reach the town centre or the beaches. The property is situated at just the right distance between the tranquillity of the wide horizons and the cultural and sporting activities of the surrounding area. ‘La Pulsation de l’Onde’. Sète, the town of Valéry, Combas and Varda. The property overlooks the landscape, where the sun lingers each evening over ‘the singular island’.
