Welcome to Quinta do Sol. This house, now fully restored, is located next to the old Royal Aqueduct of Mafra, which in the 18th century transported water from the springs in the Vilãs area to the Mafra Convent. According to local tradition, a sacristan or lay brother connected to the Convent lived here, responsible for monitoring the aqueduct on this stretch and for the daily maintenance of the water flow. In addition to this role, it is said that this man cultivated gardens around the house, providing vegetables, aromatic herbs, and medicinal plants for the convent kitchen and the friars' pharmacy. His name was not recorded, but the figure took a place in oral memory as 'the man of the aqueduct,' a symbol of the invisible network of work that supported life at the Mafra Convent. Today, on the property, there is still a stone table from that time, as you can see in the photographs, a table that later became part of a stopover on the Camino de Santiago. (Country Walks)A house full of history, without a doubt, and with a charm like no other. Come visit! For more information, get in touch.
