It is a vestige of the ancient forest belt that surrounded Lutetia, whose name first appears in a document from the Abbey of Saint-Maur in 847. Owned by the Church, then by the kings of France until 1791, the history of the wood is closely linked to that of the château. It was long prized for its royal hunting grounds. Only after the French Revolution was it classified as national property.
