CastleClamecy (58)
An impressive 18th century chateau, with garden, outbuilding and 5 hectares of grounds between Puisaye and Morvan in the Nièvre region. Set on the edge of a hamlet, the property is accessed via a small road which leads across a discreet bridge over a stream to the entrance gate. Hidden behind tall trees, the main dwelling can only be made out after entering the garden. Adjacent to the entrance, there is a building containing the caretaker's accommodation, which is extended by a section used for agricultural purposes. A peaceful stream runs through the grounds.
Probably owned by local dignitaries from the 15th century onwards, the property was later inhabited by one of Louis XVI's bodyguards. However, the most famous resident was a French Major General during the Revolution and the First Empire, who carried out extensive renovation work.
