In the Vosges mountains of eastern France, within easy reach of Luxembourg, Strasbourg, the Rhine valley and southern Germany, Gérardmer is the leading resort of the range: a lakeside town of some nine thousand inhabitants, an alpine ski area, and a year-round destination for hiking, water sports and gastronomy. Gérardmer hosts the International Fantastic Film Festival each year.
Access: Strasbourg 1 hr 45, Luxembourg 2 hrs 30, EuroAirport Basel-Mulhouse-Freiburg 1 hr 45, Frankfurt 3 hrs 30, Brussels 4 hrs 30 by road. Direct TGV services from Paris reach Épinal in around 2 hrs 30, forty minutes from the chalet, with further stations at Remiremont and Saint-Dié-des-Vosges. Colmar and the Alsace wine route are 53 km away, over the Col de la Schlucht.
