Miriam Margolyes has a holiday home here while Lord Byron, Peter Ustinov, Noel Coward and Ian Fleming were among its past illustrious residents. Indeed it is said that ‘007’ was named after the number of the local bus! When you visit the village, you can understand why these well-known luminaries have spent time in this special place.

“We moved here 12 years ago and love everything about Stable Stones. We have enjoyed putting our own stamp on the property while still retaining its original character. The location is perfect with countryside all around us, yet only two and a half miles from Canterbury city centre. With only eight properties in this quiet hamlet, we’ve enjoyed the tranquil setting and watching the Spring lambs frolicking around in the nearby field while walking our dog. We’re sure the new owners of Stable Stones will enjoy living here as much as we have.Bridge is a lovely little village with two pubs, one having a Michelin Star restaurant and the renowned Pig Hotel. This fascinating period home has been in our family since the 1970s so I have spent many happy years here but I now feel it is time to move nearer to my children. While the property could do with some updating it has all the basics to create a unique and characterful family home with the added advantage of having the annex that could be extended further by incorporating the garage, subject to the necessary permissions.Fordwich is famous for being the smallest town in England with its own town hall and attractive historic buildings as well as having the river Stour running through the centre. There was a queue of prospective purchasers wanting to buy the three new houses on this small development and we were very fortunate to secure this lovely home. We also own the drive although the other two properties have right of way and mutual responsibility. We have been extremely happy here for the past 37 years and it has been a wonderful environment to bring up our children. They have always been very keen on cricket so living just opposite the entrance to the Kent County Cricket ground was a real bonus. The Blue Flag beaches at West Bay and St Mildreds are wonderful for walking the dogs in the winter and swimming in the summer and, if you enjoy cycling, there are a number of excellent routes including part or all of the 32 mile stretch of coastline from Ramsgate to Reculver via the Viking Coastal Trail.There are also two very good secondary schools in the area as well as a number of well-respected primary schools with grammar and private schools available in Broadstairs, Ramsgate and Canterbury. Road links are very good with access to the Thanet Way for Canterbury and London while, for more in depth retail therapy and entertainment, there is the Westwood Cross shopping centre with its plethora of high street stores and restaurants, casino and bingo hall.

We bought this property some 30 years ago because the location is simply amazing. It is very quiet, secluded and private and, looking out over the fields and the spinney, makes you feel you are deep in the countryside. However you are just a few minutes’ walk from a supermarket and a number of excellent primary, secondary and grammar schools, while Broadstairs town centre and the seafront is only about a mile away. It is also not far to Margate and the Westwood Cross shopping centre with its high street stores, restaurants, cinema complex and casino.The property was originally part of the Dane Court Manor estate and was in a somewhat parlous state when we arrived and, as there was no road access to the property, we had to force our way through the undergrowth to reach the bungalow. However it has been a real ‘labour of love’ creating our charming home, garden and the spinney. We also constructed the garage that could easily be converted into a separate annexe, subject to the appropriate permissions, and we installed the road, the automatic gate and surrounding fencing to provide added security and have extended and updated the property over the years, as well as adding solar panels and batteries. Much as we love it here, we feel it is now time to downsize and pass the baton on to new owners who we hope will get as much pleasure out of the property as we have.The Victorian seaside town of Broadstairs includes a variety of individual shops, bars and excellent restaurants as well as a cinema and theatre and annual events such as Folk Week, the Dickens Festival and the Food Fair as well as a mainline station with fast trains to London taking less than an hour and a half. While Margate offers the famous Main Sands, the Turner Gallery, Dreamland Amusement Park and the interesting Old Town with its quirky shops, galleries and eateries.There are also numerous sports clubs available including cricket, tennis, bowls, squash and the renowned North Foreland Golf Club. Historical Note:Dane Court Manor was built in the 18th century, although an earlier property did exist dating back to pre-medieval times, but the latest manor house was demolished in the early 1960s and replaced by Dane Court Gardens, with the nearby Grammar school being named after the Manor.  There is a large cropmark complex in the fields adjacent to the property that includes a number of ring ditch and pit features and believed to be the remains of a Roman villa with superimposed Anglo-Saxon structures or could have been a settlement site associated with the site of a Jutish cemetery in St Peters churchyard. Under the circumstances, with its archaeological importance, it is unlikely that the fields would ever be built on.

We moved here from London in 2009 as we wanted a family home close to Canterbury and good schools but providing us with a countryside feel and plenty of space for our growing family. The property was built in the 1950s and not much had been done since then in terms of updating it until we moved here. So we extended the property and completely refurbished it with a new kitchen, bathrooms and added the second floor. When we came here, we were not gardeners but our time spent in this lovely home has encouraged our ‘green fingers’ and we have thoroughly enjoyed creating the delightful garden and kitchen garden you see today.We love being so close to Canterbury city centre with its high street stores, individual shops, restaurants and bars as well as the cinemas, two theatres and a plethora of historic buildings. At the same time we can just as easily be walking in the nearby orchards or local countryside. The city includes a leisure centre, golf course and the Polo Farm sports club as well a wide variety of excellent state and private schools as well as three universities.  As Canterbury is a university city, there are plenty of activities geared to young people and we always felt our teenage children were in a safe environment if they were out with friends.

This has been a wonderful seaside home for the past 14 years and, during our time here, we have enjoyed upgrading the property and creating the charming garden. We love the area and will continue to live nearby but we feel it is time to downsize. The location is wonderful with direct access to the clifftop and the friendly beach that the grandchildren love. It also has a slipway so you can launch a boat and the vast grassy clifftop is ideal for a brisk walk with the dog or a cycle ride.Westgate town centre is nearby with its unique parade of individual, canopied shops as well as a variety of restaurants including the Michelin recommended Quince. I really liked the light and airy atmosphere of the house when I first opened the front door and then walking through and seeing the river and the views over to Solly’s that almost seem as though the park was actually in the back garden, I knew this was the place for me. I also like the kitchen because everything is easily to hand as it was originally designed by a previous owner Audrey Eyton – author of the F-plan diet. While when I close the curtains to the conservatory in the evenings, I find the sitting area very warm and cosy. As I thought I would be living here for the foreseeable future, I have had the flat roofs over the conservatory and the kitchen replaced but sadly I am having to move for health reasons. The location is also wonderful as I can stroll to the city centre om just a few minutes and meet friends and family for a coffee or visit the nearby Marlowe theatre without needing to take the car or even get on a bus. At the same time if you want to get to London the fast train from Canterbury West will transport you to St Pancras in under an hour and it is not far from the A2 for Dover and Folkestone for trips to the Continent.As well as the cathedral there are a wide variety of other historic and interesting attractions to see including the Canterbury Norman Castle, St Augustine’s Abbey, Canterbury Heritage Museum, the Westgate, The Beaney House and the Canterbury Roman Museum. The city also has a wide variety of high street stores, individual shops and plenty of restaurants and bars as well as two mainline stations and there is an excellent doctor nearby.
