Villa with garden and terrace Enschede (Netherlands)

Monumental villas with contemporary interiors are true gems, often featured in TV programs. This villa on Thorbeckelaan, built in 1926 as a rectory, is such a rare dream home. Designed in the Um 1800 style by architect Huijgens, the property offers a unique blend of nostalgia and modern comfort. Surrounded by greenery, the villa provides ample privacy while being close to the center of Enschede. The house exudes exclusivity and retains many authentic elements, such as the staircase and wood carvings. The spacious, high-ceilinged rooms with parquet floors are full of character. Recent renovations have added modern, sleek elements, such as an extension with wooden panels, all done in consultation with Monumentenzorg. Over its more than 100-year history, this villa has witnessed much. The ‘grande dame’ has survived two world wars, narrowly escaping the last. Bombings completely destroyed the nearby elementary school. To continue providing education to the children, a temporary classroom was set up in the rectory. During air raids, they would rush to a safe shelter in the basement. At that time, Reverend Nanne Zwiep lived in the rectory with his family. In church, he preached against the persecution of Jews, which cost him dearly. Reverend Zwiep was arrested and transported to Dachau, where he died in 1942. In his memory, a Stolperstein was placed in the floor in front of the villa’s front door. The rectory also served as a hiding place for refugees, revealed by a removable plank in a closet on the second floor. Behind the wall, the residents found a child’s shoe and old newspapers. Out of respect for the past, the space has been preserved. The history also brought beautiful moments: former residents, often children of pastors, would leave notes or ring the doorbell to visit their old home once more. During those visits, heartwarming stories were shared. The positive atmosphere of the rectory, always palpable, ensures that visitors feel right at home. The villa, shielded with a distinguished fence, is built on a mound. The terrace with the impressive double front door is reached via a stone staircase. Above it is a graceful balcony. In the entrance hall, featuring a small radiator and a new meter cupboard, begins the beautiful terrazzo floor. Through a glass swing door, you enter the large, bright hallway with the same terrazzo floor. Immediately, you are struck by the seamless blend of ‘then and now.’ Particularly impressive are the extensive door frames with artisanal wood carvings from the past. A large, round designer lamp on the ceiling—repeated elsewhere in the villa—represents the present. When lit, the pattern of the lamp is reflected on the walls, creating a magical effect. On the right, you find the first room with three tall windows. The former study now serves as a ‘chill room,’ but it is also perfectly suitable as a bedroom. In addition to the two monumental built-in closets, there is a third closet that houses the water softener. If you go straight right down the hallway, you enter a small hallway with two doors. The left door leads to a spacious, underground cellar with two windows. There are plenty of closets on both sides. The floor has recently been replaced with tiles in an ‘old style.’ Behind the second door is a restroom, equipped with a window, toilet, sink, and radiator. Returning to the hallway, you walk diagonally straight into the living room en suite. Furniture is almost redundant here; the living space itself exudes atmosphere. The area is divided into a front room and a dining room. The beautiful, glass suite sliding doors with built-in storage on either side allow the rooms to be separated. To maintain the symmetry of the monumental building in the windows as well, an extra window has been added to the outer wall of the front room. In that same wall, a flue is present in the middle, under which stands a wood stove as an elegant addition to the cozy ambiance. Warmth is also provided by radiators under the windowsills. The dining room also features radiators and a wood stove. The mantel above the stove is lined with Oud-Hollandse tiles, forming an original accessory in the otherwise serene room. Wooden sliding doors, framed with storage behind wooden doors, provide access to the backyard. From the dining room, you walk into the kitchen. The large, high windows offer a view of the terrace and garden. Here too, there is a sober, pleasantly calming interior base. The small, gray, antique-looking floor tiles are original handmade Castelo tiles with underfloor heating; how delightful! They share the same gray tone as the imposing cabinet wall with a large refrigerator, fresh-keeping drawers, steam oven, warming drawer, and kitchen cabinets that reach the ceiling. A stainless steel niche in the middle of the wall is the spot for the six-burner gas stove with an oven. The stove is flanked by spacious, deep basket drawers, with a concealed pull-out pantry on the right side. There is no lack of storage space in this practical kitchen. If cooking is your hobby, this is the culinary Valhalla. There is enough room to try out recipes for the tastiest dishes together. Prefer to watch? You can do so from one of the six stools at the generous kitchen island that forms the heart of the kitchen. A rail on the ceiling supports spotlights and pendant lights. The kitchen island has a stainless steel worktop and sink with a tap, Quooker, and built-in soap dispenser. You can place the dirty dishes directly in the dishwasher below. Very practical, and you can immediately join the bar for an aperitif. The kitchen also has a mantelpiece, which is currently out of service but can be reactivated. A charming detail in the kitchen is the pass-through in the wall to the dining room. According to legend, servants used it daily and frequently in the past. Nowadays, the pass-through mainly fuels your imagination… What all has passed through here? It could be a separate chapter in the history book of this villa. Adjacent to the kitchen, an extension was created in 2015. The passage is entirely made of glass and opens into the second dining room. In keeping with the monumental character of the house, the space is largely furnished in the same style as the rest of the ground floor. The same tiled floor as in the kitchen, white plastered walls, and high windows. The main difference lies in the style. The interior frames are made of the same wood as the exterior wooden panels. The space is lit by ceiling spotlights and pendant lights and features storage space against a ‘Delft blue’ wallpapered wall, a nod to history. After the dining room, through the small hallway, the inside and outside are separated by a sliding door to the terrace on the left. In the hallway, there are also sliding doors that disappear into the wall when opened, providing access to the wardrobe with hanging and laying options and a glass door to the outside. Depending on the season, wool mittens or sun hats can easily be stored in the extensive closet wall that spans the entire wall width. Beyond the wardrobe is the back door to the driveway and the street side of the garage. The shed cum garage is built in a matching style. The spacious garage with double doors at the front and back offers space for a car and storage for all kinds of tools and other items. If you’re creative, you can quickly turn it into a workshop. The majestic staircase with graceful, curving handrails featuring original wood carvings is a monument in itself. Ascend the runner and you reach a small landing with a large window and another small staircase. This is the ascent to the first floor, which is lit by the second round designer lamp. Various bedrooms feature spherical lamps on the ceilings. These are also identical to each other but smaller and different in appearance than the lamps in the hall and landing. For the furnishing of the first floor, uniformity in the bedrooms is key to serenity. All bedrooms are equipped with connections for TV and cable, multiple low-mounted radiators, monumental built-in closets, and several large sliding windows. Together with the high ceilings, the generous daylight gives a sense of freedom and space. The floors throughout the floor have been replaced. The light-colored wooden plank floors are made of the same type of oak as the herringbone parquet downstairs. The dimmable wall spots and white, double-layered roller blinds are also found everywhere. The white plastered walls in some rooms are decorated in various ways with a colored pattern. Arriving on the upper floor, you find five doors. Clockwise, the first bedroom is located on the street side. A double bed and a desk fit here perfectly. You still have enough space left. Behind the second door is the bathroom with a window, spatially above the entrance downstairs. The bathroom, done in a combination of white and brown tiles, is equipped with a hanging toilet, a shower behind glass walls, a vanity unit with storage drawers, a double sink made of black natural stone, and built-in taps. The wide mirror above it is framed with the same brown tiles as the wall in the shower area. The third bedroom is accessible via both the third and the fourth doors. On clear days, you can almost leave the light off in this bedroom. A large window and French doors flood the room with daylight and sunshine. From the small balcony, you look out over the backyard. In this room, the symmetry returns in the form of closets on either side of the French doors. Staying here feels like being in a luxury hotel. This spacious bedroom (above the dining room en suite on the ground floor) has three tall windows. One of them is part of a chic bay window finished with wooden wall panels. True to tradition, there are built-in closets on both sides of the bay window. Truly splendid is the ceiling here, adorned with authentic ceiling moldings and ornaments. Continuing the route, you reach the next sublime room, bedroom 5. Daylight enters through three windows. A contemporary wardrobe complements the hanging and laying space in the monumental built-in closets. No unnecessary accessories, just peace. And that is exactly enough to fully relax here. From the landing, two staircases, of course with a small landing in between, guide you to the second floor and the third round designer lamp. The villa’s impressive contents are once again evident here. Look down from behind the balustrade. What you see are not ordinary stairs. The monumental staircase resembles a unique piece of architectural art. Three doors form the selection menu on the second floor. The left door provides access to a small hallway with four more doors. The stylish villa boasts a second bathroom, housed behind the first door in the hallway. This bathroom has a robust character, thanks to the old wooden beams incorporated into the interior. The sloping wall with a skylight also sets the atmosphere here. In the corner of the bathroom, an oval bathtub draws attention. Relaxing in the bath is literally done in higher spheres here. A vanity unit with drawers, a black double sink in one, two built-in taps, and a wide mirror illuminated by a wall spot are placed in front of a wall. Behind it, there is a walk-in shower with built-in spotlights. All walls and floors are tiled with the same square, gray tiles. The next door in the small hallway leads to the sixth bedroom, currently used as a laundry and ironing room. Behind the remaining two swing doors on the right side is a space for a washing machine and dryer. The appliances stand on a noise-reducing concrete platform. Crossing the landing directly, you reach bedroom 7. This is a smaller room, also with a small bay window with a window, a sloping wall, and space for a single bed. While each room tells its own story, this room holds a particularly remarkable history. It is in the strikingly shallow built-in closet, where a plank seals off the space where refugees hid during World War II. Through the middle of the three doors on the landing, you do not enter a bedroom but instead climb a steep staircase to the attic. Should you, despite the abundant closet space, still be looking for a place to store, for instance, Christmas decorations, this is your spot. The surprisingly spacious attic, where you can stand upright, offers many possibilities. There is even a separate storage area. You could potentially create an eighth bedroom. The central heating boiler that hangs there dates from 2013. An interesting detail is the ladder lying on the beams. With it, you can reach the flat roof through a hatch. When you think of a cozy garden, you think of fruit trees, a sprawling lawn, a sunny seating area, and a covered terrace for cool evenings. This garden, accessible via the dining room, kitchen, and extension, has it all, including a pear tree. Matching the style of the villa, the paving consists of old clinkers. It is delightful to relax after a busy day at the outdoor seating area, from the loungers, or on the covered terrace against the garage wall. From here, you have a view of the garden, the back facade of the house, and the extension. Is it too chilly outside already? No worries, turn on the heaters, and you can enjoy beautiful evenings for hours. In the corner of the garden, you can take a seat under a third terrace’s canopy. A dense growth of trees and shrubs surrounds the lush garden. A wall covered in ivy forms the separation from the neighbors behind. On the expansive lawn, there is plenty of room for play equipment. Both inside and around the house, maintenance is up to date.

House Amsterdam (Netherlands)

Singel 265, A canal house of rare allureOn the Singel, one of Amsterdam's oldest and most characterful main canals, stands this impressive national monument dating from the Golden Age. Singel 265 is no ordinary home: it is a complete, self-contained canal house of 269 m² of living space on freehold land, offering across five floors an extraordinary combination of historical grandeur and contemporary living comfort. Behind the 10-metre-wide historic Renaissance façade lies a rare blend of authenticity, space and urban elegance.Location and accessibilityThe Singel, in earlier times also known as the Koningsgracht, marks the transition between medieval Amsterdam and the seventeenth-century canal ring. Singel 265 occupies one of the city's most iconic locations. The address is within walking distance of the Jordaan, the Spui, the Nine Streets (De Negen Straatjes) and the Haarlemmerstraat — neighbourhoods offering a wide range of boutiques, daily markets, restaurants and coffee bars. The immediate surroundings combine the vibrancy of the city centre with the calm of the water and the greenery along the canal. Soho House, among others, is just around the corner. For daily shopping, the Albert Heijn supermarket and the weekly market on the Noordermarkt are only minutes away. Cultural amenities such as the Stedelijk Museum, the Rijksmuseum, the Stadsschouwburg (International Theatre Amsterdam) and countless galleries and theatres are all within cycling distance.Public transport connections are excellent: various tram and bus lines are within walking distance, and the Noord/Zuid metro line can be reached via Rokin or Spui stations. By bicycle, virtually the entire city is effortlessly accessible. For motorists, the A10 ring road can be reached in approximately ten minutes via the Stadhouderskade or the IJ Tunnel.LayoutThe exceptional architecture of this house reveals itself the moment you step inside on the ground floor. The imposing double-height entrance, with a ceiling height of over four metres, is dominated by a stately white spiral staircase and an original, heavy oak beamed ceiling. Large windows at the front allow the light from the Singel to flow deep into the interior. Behind elegant double doors lies the living room, distinctly classical in character, featuring several charming built-in benches and a cosy open fireplace with an authentic French mantelpiece (Willem Schermerhorn).Kitchen and courtyardTowards the rear, on the souterrain level, is the generous eat-in kitchen, fitted with an atmospheric French Lacanche range cooker in blue lacquer with copper handles, Belgian bluestone worktops and hand-painted Delft blue tiles above the stove. The kitchen accommodates a large dining table and, via a hallway, gives access to the picturesque tiled courtyard, an urban oasis with a hand-painted tile tableau, climbing plants and the intimacy of a sheltered patio.Bel étage — rear houseThe rear house contains a second living and sitting room that immediately stands out for its distinctive character. The original beamed ceiling, painted in a deep green, lends the space a warm and intimate atmosphere. A through-view towards the front of the house lets in a remarkable amount of natural light, so that despite its position at the rear, the room feels bright and open.First floor — rear houseThis floor accommodates a spacious bedroom with en-suite bathroom and a terrace connecting the rear house to the front house. The room has a ceiling height of over four metres, allowing the spaciousness of the property to come fully into its own here as well. From this room there is access to a practical storage attic.First floor — front houseThis floor features a spacious sitting room with kitchenette and direct access to the terrace. At the front, the house opens up towards the Singel, the view over the water and the opposite side of the canal is at its finest here. Like the living room downstairs, this sitting room boasts a beautiful mantelpiece with open fireplace. The second bedroom, also located on the canal side, shares the same view.Second floor — front houseThe second floor houses two bedrooms at the front, both with the characteristic view over the Singel and the façades opposite. At the rear, the rooms look out onto the charming gable of the rear house, a secluded, almost picturesque scene that further underlines the special character of this property. This floor is completed by a bathroom with shower, washbasin and toilet.Third and top floor — front houseAt the very top, beneath the ridge of the roof, lies the master bedroom: a generous bedroom with a ceiling height of 3.60 metres, exposed roof trusses and a private bathroom with bath and shower. A space with the feel of a private suite, high above the rooftops of Amsterdam. The property was largely renovated in 2007. The foundations were restored in the 1970s. The exterior paintwork at the rear was renewed in 2023. As a national monument within a UNESCO World Heritage area, Singel 265 offers not only an exceptional living environment but also the fiscal advantages associated with listed-building status.DetailsUsable floor area of approx. 270 m² (living area 268.7 m², other indoor space 1.3 m² in accordance with NEN 2580)Gross floor area: 341 m²Building-related outdoor space: approx. 23 m²External storage (cellar): approx. 16.5 m²Freehold landNational monument (rijksmonument)UNESCO World HeritageNo owners' association (VvE)Internally renovated between approx. 2007 and 2010; fully renovated in the late 1970s, including foundation repair, by restoration architect Gerard PrinsMarble floors/wall in the hall by Piet Jonker; Italian marble and Dornbracht fittings in the bathroomsKitchen fitted with beautiful Belgian bluestone worktops and a Lacanche range cookerExterior paintwork at the rear completed in 2023Transfer in consultationThis information has been compiled by us with due care. Apartment with terrace Amsterdam (Netherlands)

THIS IS ONE OF THE MOST UNIQUE RESIDENCES IN AMSTERDAM!With an enchanting, unobstructed view over the water and the lion enclosure of Artis, this stunning three-storey ground-floor residence of nearly 400 square meters is located in a quiet, low-traffic street. This spacious and fully renovated home offers an abundance of possibilities and includes three private parking spaces (with room for four cars) in the underground garage. Currently used as a generous family home, the basement can easily be transformed into a commercial space, with the basement officially registered under the address Entrepotdok 95. The ground floor and first floor each have their own cadastral number and separate entrances, ensuring flexibility.LAYOUTThe property can be accessed in four different ways. Via the beautifully landscaped communal courtyard, you reach the official entrance. The hallway with lift and staircase brings you to the garage, the ground floor, or the first floor. You can also access the home internally through the storage area from the garage. Alternatively, the entrance via Entrepotdok opens directly into the modern kitchen.BASEMENTThe basement is entered through one of the storage rooms that is connected to the lower level of the house. Through the storage, you enter a spacious utility room with ample storage space, leading into the kitchen. To the right is a generous toilet with a small vestibule and washbasin, followed by a separate toilet. Under the staircase to the left is a large cupboard offering additional storage. The timeless Boffi kitchen (2009) with island is finished in a light colour scheme and stainless steel countertop. The stylish cabinetry, with a soft wave-textured surface in a light tone, is a design feature that recurs throughout the house. The kitchen is equipped with high-end built-in Gaggenau appliances: a combination steam oven, fridge/freezer, Irinox shock freezer, extra-wide convection oven, induction hob with three burners, a Teppanyaki plate, induction wok burner, and recently updated Siemens dishwashers, as well as a Quooker tap providing boiling, ice-cold, and sparkling water. This large kitchen also features a dining area at the front, flooded with natural light and complete with a built-in bench.A few steps lead you to the quiet, traffic-free street with a broad sidewalk. Here, a sunny terrace offers a peaceful retreat with extraordinary views over the water and the lions of Artis beyond. Enjoy the open view and the unique sounds of the zoo from your outdoor table. In summer, children can even swim right outside the front door!GROUND FLOORFrom the kitchen, an internal staircase leads to the ground floor. This level features a central open hall giving access to a stair cupboard, a technical room, and a spacious toilet. Here too, you’ll find the recurring custom storage wall with ample space. Under the staircase is an additional cupboard, currently used as a coat area for the children. At the heart of this floor is a generous TV lounge, and at the front a cosy sitting area with a stylish bio-ethanol fireplace. Walkable glass flooring by the window allows additional natural light into the basement. French doors open onto a Juliet balcony with a beautiful view. You'll enjoy uninterrupted views of Artis—there are no residences across the street, a rare feature for central Amsterdam. To the rear lies the master bedroom with a large built-in wardrobe and en-suite bathroom. The luxurious bathroom features a spacious rain shower and double washbasin. This bedroom borders the communal garden.FIRST FLOORThe first floor is accessible via two different staircases. Upon entering, you’ll find a hallway with plenty of storage, a separate toilet, and a laundry room. The current residents have set up a home gym on the spacious landing (previously a children’s play area). At the back (garden side), there are two bedrooms, a small office for administration, and a luxurious bathroom with walk-in shower and double vanity. Near these bedrooms is a gaming area, enclosed with folding glass doors. The front side also features two bedrooms and a loggia. The third bathroom includes a bathtub, walk-in shower, double sink, and an infrared sauna.RENOVATIONSThe building originally dates from 1840. It was redeveloped in 2002. In 2009, the current owner acquired the first floor (Geschutswerf 37), which underwent a major renovation. All three floors were completely stripped and rebuilt, including new electricals, kitchen, bathroom on the ground floor, and toilet on the first floor. The combination of beautiful wooden beams and modern finishes creates a truly unique atmosphere. The architect’s goal was to design a cohesive home, rather than three separate units, resulting in a stunning layout with beautiful sightlines and the signature custom cabinetry appearing on each floor. This home combines the charm of a historical building with modern comfort, including underfloor heating, floor cooling (heat pump), and home automation. In 2014, the first floor layout was modified, and the two bathrooms were renovated. The two front bedrooms were previously a fully insulated music studio, which can easily be restored for use as a soundproof office or studio. In 2023, both central heating systems were replaced, as well as the two dishwashers and the Quooker tap.MONUMENT STATUSThe property is located in an area designated as a Nationally Protected Cityscape and is officially a listed National Monument. The facade and beams are protected elements.GROUND LEASEThe home consists of three apartment rights: two residences with storage rooms (Geschutswerf 33 and 37, now known as Geschutswerf 33) and one commercial space in the basement (secondary address Entrepotdok 95). The owner holds four parking spaces which can be purchased separately (index 65 is a double space, index 67 and 68 are single spaces). One space, which houses the heat pump, is included in the asking price. The asking price for the additional single space is €80,000, and €140,000 for the double space. The ground lease for all properties has been paid off until 15-12-2050. The application for conversion to perpetual leasehold for the residences and parking spaces was submitted on 31-07-2023 under the favourable regret policy, so the favourable conditions apply. The municipality has not yet issued an offer.OWNERS’ ASSOCIATION (VVE)The VvE is professionally managed by Pro VVE Beheer. Meetings are held regularly, and a multi-year maintenance plan is in place. The monthly contribution for the property and all parking spaces is €1,183.12. House with garden Amsterdam (Netherlands)

Detached villa on the Vondelpark - a rarity in Amsterdam Some homes are simply unexpected in Amsterdam. This is one of them. Directly bordering the Vondelpark, fully detached and hidden among the greenery, lies this remarkable city villa. A place where peace and privacy come naturally, while the vibrancy of the city is literally just around the corner. This charming villa, dating from 1893, has a unique history. Originally built as a garden house for the Vondelpark, it is now a stylish residence where character and comfort blend seamlessly. Behind its modest façade lies an atmospheric home with authentic details and a truly unique setting: on the park and in the heart of Amsterdam. A residence for those who appreciate history, privacy, and refined city living. Here, you live in a piece of Amsterdam&39;s history. With a living area of approximately 129 m² and already explored extension possibilities up to approximately 240 m², this property offers not only a comfortable home, but also the rare opportunity to create something truly exceptional in this location. First Impression Via the private driveway and on-site parking, you arrive at the property - something already exceptional in Amsterdam. What immediately stands out is the tranquillity. You hardly hear the city, while being right in the middle of it. The combination of greenery, space, and privacy makes this home feel more like a villa than a city residence. The entrance is characterised by a glass ceiling, allowing beautiful natural light to enter. Here you will also find a guest toilet and a practical storage room with central heating installation (2017). The layout is logical and open, with a natural flow between the spaces. Living Room The living room is bright and pleasantly proportioned, with large windows providing a continuous connection to the outdoors throughout the day. The fireplace adds warmth and atmosphere, while the French doors provide direct access to the garden. This is one of those spaces where indoor and outdoor living merge effortlessly - a quality rarely found in the city. Kitchen and Living Area The kitchen is modern and sleek in design, fitted with high-quality appliances, including a Bertazzoni cooker. The adjoining extension is bright and spacious, forming a natural continuation of the living area. There is ample room for a generous dining table - perfect for dinners and long evenings with friends, overlooking the greenery. Thanks to the large sliding glass doors, inside and outside blend seamlessly. Here, you experience peace in the heart of the city. First Floor Via the steel staircase, you reach the first floor, where glass once again ensures pleasant natural light. The principal bedroom overlooks the Vondelpark and features French balconies. The high ceilings and exposed wooden beams give the room warmth and character. The second bedroom is quietly situated and can be arranged flexibly as a child&39;s room, office, or guest room. The bathroom is spacious and complete, featuring a bathtub, walk-in shower, and double washbasin. Frosted glass allows abundant daylight while maintaining privacy. Garden The garden is green, sheltered, and feels like an extension of the home. Remarkably quiet for this location, with birdsong as a daily soundtrack - in the middle of the city. Here, you enjoy complete privacy, surrounded by peace and greenery. A rare combination in Amsterdam. The perfect setting for long summer evenings, with the Vondelpark as your backyard. Character and History What makes this property even more special is its origin. The building dates from approximately 1893 and was originally constructed as a garden house belonging to a villa on Tesselschadestraat. Zandpad itself is one of Amsterdam&39;s oldest paths and existed long before the creation of the Vondelpark. You therefore live in a place where the city once transitioned into open countryside. And this history is still tangible today: detached, secluded, and with a sense of peace one would hardly expect in this location. Potential Detached living in this location rarely comes to market. With already explored extension possibilities up to approximately 240 m², this property also offers the opportunity to create a future-proof and unique family home here, entirely tailored to your own wishes. Closing Detached living in this location is exceptional. A home with character, tranquillity, and potential, in a place where Amsterdam reveals itself at its very best.
