In Anjou, on the edge of a village with a river, on 29 ha, a 16th and 17th century manor with chapel and outbuildings.
On the edge of a charming village with a river running through its centre, about five minutes from a town offering all main shops and services and less than half an hour from Angers, linked with Paris by a high-speed line (travel time less than an hour and a half, about ten daily departures in both directions). The surrounding countryside has rolling valleys and is rich with with woodlands and hedgerows. The river that runs through the village is navigable and its shady banks are ideal for walking.
From the road leading to the village, a driveway bordered by gardens serves a barn on one side, the former stables on the other, and then leads to the entrance gate. This opens onto a landscaped courtyard, partly enclosed by the manor, the chapel and the old pigsties and partly by low walls. The courtyard area between the manor house and the chapel is paved with old local cobble stones, unique in Anjou and dating back to the sixteenth century. It has been completely restored. There is also a well in the courtyard. Beyond the courtyard, at the back of the manor follow the park, the vegetable garden, the lake and further on the meadows.
The manorThe origins of the manor date back to the twelfth century. It was subsequently remodelled (in the fifteenth, sixteenth and seventeenth centuries), and in the nineteenth century, two further buildings were added, the first, an extension to the north side, and the second, in a square return, to the south side. Built of coursed rubble masonry with a lime render, the original manor has three levels, one of which is under the roof. It is topped by a double pitched slate roof pierced on both sides by dormer windows with triangular pediments supported by the mullioned windows of the first floor. The frames of the dormers, mullioned windows and other openings are made of tuffeau stone. The other two buildings offer a ground floor and a first floor under a slate roof, the house to the north featuring dormer windows on both sides.
Ground floor
At present, the entrance is via the north building. It leads to the living room, a hallway with a toilet and opens onto a bedroom with bathroom and toilet. Boiler room. A double spiral stone staircase starts in the entrance hall. The living room is followed by the dining room, the entrance to the original manor house with a second staircase in tuffeau stone and slate and, under the staircase, toilets, a small cellar and the kitchen. Finally, accessed from the outside only, there is a bedroom with en-suite shower room and toilet in the northern building. The other building is situated at right angles and offers a small flat. Most rooms feature terracotta tile flooring and beamed ceilings. The living and dining rooms offer tuffeau stone fireplaces, the kitchen fire place is made of brick and tuffeau stone. The kitchen also features a slate sink.
First floor
The landing of the main staircase serves on one side two bedrooms, each with a shower room and toilet, and on the other side two bedrooms, a bathroom with a linen room, a toilet and a closet. One of the two bedrooms has a terracotta tiled floor, beamed ceiling and tuffeau stone fireplace. This same room also communicates with the landing of the second staircase which provides access to an office. It features terracotta tile flooring and a beamed ceiling. The outbuildingsSituated further away from the courtyard, they consist of a typical Anjou barn bordering the gable of the north building, the former stables an open shed and, in the courtyard, former pigsties partly converted into a summer kitchen on the ground floor and a games room on the first floor, and finally the chapel …
