Location
Sarteano is an ancient village dating back to the Etruscan era. In fact, the village is famous for its numerous Etruscan tombs and its Etruscan museum, which are currently open to visitors. A very important event is the Civitas Infernalis, where for a week the village descends into the medieval period through themed events and concerts. However, the most famous event followed by all the citizens of the village and neighboring towns is the Saracenic jousting in mid-August, a medieval event that challenges five ancient contrades (districts) in a horse race with a pole and a ring. The joust is much more than that, with young and old parading together, jousting and waving flags in medieval costumes, an experience to be lived.
