At the back of the house, a flight of steps leads up from a gate to the garden, connecting the terrace to a raised, half-covered swimming pool on the upper level. A number of annexes, either attached to or separate from the house, complete the dwelling, including former stables and a shelter.

A 310-m² dwelling in a 12th-century chateau, registered as a national Historical Monument, with moats, grounds and outbuildings, 30 minutes from Avignon and Uzès, in the Provencal Gard region. Not far from the banks of the Rhône, this chateau is one of the region’s most characteristic monuments, the landscape of which is influenced by winemaking and the richness of its soil, fed by the canals flowing from the peaceful neighbouring waterway, which once provided access to the river. Making skilful use of its strategic position, its construction, on a site that was most likely already occupied during the Carolingian period, dates back to the 12th century with an initial dwelling abutting a defensive tower. However, it was not until the 16th century that it was considerably developed in order to become the impressive edifice of one of the most prominent families in southern France, as well as one of the few in south-eastern France to have a defensive system composed of moats, still filled by a neighbouring stream, which are, in turn surrounded by a curtain of plane trees. From the 12th century, the chateau preserved its corner tower in the northwest, cadenced by impressive arrow slits, while two other towers (including a dovecote) flank the eastern and south-eastern corners of the three three-storey main buildings. The whole surrounds an immense formal courtyard closed off to the south by a high wall, accessible via a massive door with vermiculated rustic stonework, whereas the former rampart walk was transformed into a path along the banks of the moats. In addition, a stone bridge has now replaced the former drawbridge, which today has all but disappeared except for the bases of two of its piers. As for the buildings’ understated exteriors, cadenced by cross-windows and several more recent low-arched windows, they are somewhat counterbalanced by the richly carved doors in the central building and chapel. Saved from ruin in 1978 and registered as a national Historical Monument, the chateau was the subject of a comprehensive restoration project in the 2000s, which resulted in the creation of accommodations combining modern comforts with an unconditional respect for the property’s heritage. Located on the first floor of the chateau’s western wing and partially situated in what was once the Estates General room, the flat occupies a section built between 1572 and 1590 for Marshall de Joyeuse and communicates with a second, independent flat.

A former 19th-century food-producing estate turned into a vast family home, with enclosed, wooded grounds, truffle and olive groves and a swimming pool in Uzès. . A typical example of a farmhouse from the end of the 18th century, probably built under the Directoire or First Empire period, and whose owners very quickly decided that it absolutely had to be much more than just a farmhouse. Throughout the 19th century, alterations were carried out until the main buildings became a noble-looking architectural ensemble, just a few strides away from the National Stud. In the 20th century, transformations and extensions continued to make it more adapted to family life, resulting in a group of several outbuildings, all of which complemented each other intelligently. Today, the estate, which includes a truffle and olive grove, is home to a vast, aristocratic-style family home, “La Roseraie”, which has been converted into a comfortable holiday home with bedrooms and suites, and outbuildings that can all be lived in. A boxwood labyrinth, a common feature of 19th-century Provencal gardens, once greeted visitors in the south garden before being razed by a previous owner. It is now ready for a new lease of life. The farmhouse has also preserved a ”pouzarenque”, a fully restored bucket wheel, a rare sight in Uzège, where these waterwheels have disappeared with the motorization of water pumps. The original entrance, which opened directly onto the grounds from the road leading to the national stud farm, was completely enclosed by dry stone walls, but has been replaced by a new gate and a slightly more northerly entrance to free up the grounds. The entrance is now a driveway lined with olive trees.

An approximately 325-m² former presbytery awaiting renovation, with an inner courtyard, in the centre of Béziers, on an esplanade. The presbytery is at the very tip of the acropolis in Béziers, to the south of the old town, outside its walls, several hundred metres from the medieval ramparts. Remains of the Roman arenas can be seen very close by. The residence is opposite a large esplanade on which plane trees provide shade, in a dominant position with uninterrupted views of the lower parts of the city, the Orb Valley and the Pyrenees on the horizon. The façade of this three-storey building, standing next to the entrance to the church, is rendered and has four low-arched openings containing a door as well as three windows on the ground floor, all made of wood, five windows on the first floor and the same number on the second floor, on which they are smaller and can be found in rectangular openings. The panelled, painted, wooden door with a fanlight window is surrounded by a moulded door frame and is topped by an entablature with a central key stone, all of which are ribbed or sculpted. It can be reached by three stone steps and has a painted metal guard-rail on either side. All the windows on the top two storeys are fitted with white-painted wooden shutters, while those on the ground floor are protected by metal railings. Light streams into the edifice’s rooms thanks to its west-facing aspect and many windows. Lastly, as is customary in the region, the roof is made of half-round tiles, which is underlined by a denticulated cornice, echoed in more sober fashion by two belt courses on the lower levels.

A castle and its feudal keep with a 30-hectare estate in the heart of the Cévennes national park, in the south of Lozère. Formerly the stronghold of the Arnal family, who at the end of the 17th century owned most of the valley and the hamlet of Beaumelle, hence the name Arnal de la Beaumelle, the castle was burnt down in 1702 during the War of the Camisards. When it was rebuilt between 1730 and 1740, it became more residential. The keep still dominates the surrounding buildings and has a wonderful view over the valley. The complex consists of a castle resembling a feudal residence flanked by two towers, as well as a number of outbuildings destined for farming, including cowsheds, a shed for drying chestnuts and the remains of an old castle chapel. This mainly west-facing hilltop property commands the southern valley. Fed by two springs, the estate has developed over the last two centuries thanks to livestock activities and terraced crop cultivation on numerous sun-drenched terraces. At the edge of the stream, the property is completed by the ruins of an imposing mill powered by its water.
